Post-Surgical Lymphatic Massage to support healing

Recovering from surgery is challenging. Tightness, swelling, and discomfort can slow your healing. I provide gentle post-op lymphatic massage using Certified Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) to help reduce swelling, ease discomfort, support safe recovery, and help prevent fibrosis.

Why Post-Op Lymphatic Massage Matters

After procedures such as liposuction, breast surgery, tummy tucks or facelifts, your lymphatic system can become overloaded. This often leads to swelling, bruising and restricted healing. In some cases fibrosis, a hardened scar tissue that causes lumps or tightness develops. Post-op encourages fluid movement, reduces inflammation and helps prevent fibrosis.

Types of Surgery Supported by Lymphatic Massage

I provide post-op lymphatic massage for clients recovering from:

  • Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
  • Liposuction
  • Breast Reconstruction and Explants
  • Face Lift, Rhinoplasty, and other cosmetic procedures
  • Cancer related surgeries
  • Orthopedic surgeries
  • Facelift, rhinoplasty and more.

Treatments are adapted to your needs and healing stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your treatment starts with boosting full body lymphatic flow through an abdominal and neck massage.
  • Gentle massage strokes are used in the swollen area to encourage lymphatic flow and reduce swelling.
  • Strokes reroute lymphatic flow away from lymph nodes and vessels affected by the surgery.
  • No lotion or oil is used. The therapist's hands give a light pressure in the direction of lymphatic flow.
  • The goal is to improve lymphatic function in the body thereby supporting recovery.

Most clients begin within 48-72 hours after surgery (with surgeon approval.)

No, Certified Vodder MLD is gentle, yet effective at reducing discomfort and swelling.

It will depend on your surgery and your goals. Many clients receive 1-2 massages per week for 6 weeks.

  • I have Vodder MLD Certification from both Klose Training and ACOLS.   https://www.acols.com/courses/manual-lymph-drainage-certification.php  https://klosetraining.com/mld/

  • I completed Kathleen Lisson's Post-Op Courses for Licensed Massage Therapists. https://solacesandiego.wixsite.com/mysite/post/postop-massage-therapy-directory

If you are unsure let's connect by phone, zoom or in-person so I can answer your questions. With the rise of insufficiently trained therapists offering "MLD" it is important to do your research to ensure that the person placing his or her hands on your body knows how to do so safely.

This service is not Body Contouring or Incisional Drainage.
